Before the summer, "Robinson Crusoe" makes a stop at the Opéra de Rennes and on a giant screen in front of the Town Hall.

The Opéra de Rennes will soon present, for the end of the season, a new production of **Robinson Crusoé**, the comic opera by **Jacques Offenbach** inspired by the novel by **Daniel Defoe**. Rarely performed on French stages, the work returns in a version that aims to combine musical fidelity with a contemporary reading of the castaway myth. The opera will also be broadcast on giant screens on June 18 as part of **Opéra sur Écran(s)**.

Created in 1867, **Robinson Crusoé** holds a unique place in **Offenbach**'s production. Far from the political satire of his most famous operettas, the work relies on a romantic plot and a more subdued humor. The score, rich in ensembles and virtuosic numbers, reflects a composer at the height of his inventiveness.

This first staging by **Laurent Pelly** promises to be particularly promising. The director favors a narrative approach, focused on the psychological evolution of the characters and the initiatory dimension of the journey.

The Orchestre National de Bretagne will be conducted by **Guillaume Tourniaire**, recognized for his expertise in the French repertoire. The cast brings together several young French voices, chosen for their ability to combine vocal precision and theatrical performance.
